Santa Monica Flea Market ~

On Sunday, we took a drive to the Santa Monica Flea Market. It was my first time at that show... I usually go to flea markets with a girlfriend but Mr. AntiqueChase was up for shopping since we would be taking the pretty drive along the coast... We didn't hop in the car till about 10 am, and had about a 45 minute drive, which is rather late for the "good stuff"... Years ago, I would have never gone to a flea market so late in the morning... but these days, I am realizing that's when the real deals are found... No vendor wants to take home all there goodies. The pricing becomes more negotiable the later you arrive, at least in my opinion...

My pictures are poorly lit, not staged and you will have to forgive me as I figured you wouldn't mind.

So here's what found it's way home with me...

The first purchase of the day is still my favorite...

Can you guess which item I bought first??

I always find that the first purchase is a favorite or a purchase you can regret.. at least for me.

It's hard to break out the cash when you first get to the flea market. Does this happen to you? You don't want to "miss out" on something.. and when you don't want to miss out, you can make a bad purchasing decision.. Then, you compound this with the "I just got here" factor so you don't know if you will find something better...

That first purchase can be really tricky!!

My first purchase was this concrete cow...
moooo!

and I love her!!!

Her slightly pink udders...

She is a little self conscious of her bad side...
See, she has one unsightly leg...

When I was buying her my husband gave me the rolly eye... I think he mentioned her
"deformed" leg...

Doesn't he know how RARE a concrete cow is??

I was not leaving her there!!
Let's face it,
I have a good and bad side too!!

PLUS, I can fix her up
with some modeling clay and cream paint!
Someday.

My son named her Milkshake....

She's a cow on the move...
here's where she's been..

on a table...

by the TV...

On a kitchen tray next to a vintage cow painting...

By the sink...

She is so versatile...

I love my cement cow,
even with a broken leg!

Moooo'ving on....

I bought an vintage grain sack with a pretty blue stripe..

I have been adding some blue to the house and this blue was just the perfect shade I have been looking for...

This grain sack will be draped over a chair in the living room...

I also purchased this rope hook combo thing....

What is this called??

I may use this to hang a old lantern in the house...

I fell in love with this old wicker suitcase...

Mr. AntiqueChase calls it my
Indiana Jones
suitcase...

Interesting labels...
they are in such good condition
that I don't know if they are original...

Doesn't matter to me..

This suitcase is really old...
the wicker is in beautiful condition
with great patina

Leather handle and brass hardware

The floral interior....

I will probably use the wicker suitcase in the family room on the bottom shelf of my coffee table..
I can stash my magazines inside.

I also came home with more farm animals...

These chickens caught my eye because I have been wanting a rooster...

This rooster's face reminds me of a cartoon I watched as a child but I can't seem to remember the character's name...

Great patina on the paint and nice to have a Mr. and Mrs...

After I bought the pair, I realized they were not concrete.. more of a lightweight plaster?

(Note to self: touch the item before you buy it)

Since they are not concrete,
they will find a place inside the house..

Got a nice big succulent for $8 ...

I think this is called Donkey Tail
but I'm not positive...

Found it's way into an old urn
I had sitting empty in the kitchen...

This mirror caught my eye early at the show
but I walked away...

I thought the shape was amazing
and I inquired about the price...

but I couldn't figure out where I would hang it...

I liked the age spots on the glass...

the beveled edge...

and the double chain.

As I was leaving the flea market,
I spotted the mirror still there,

on the ground
and

it called to me.....

By this point it was 1pm and the seller really wanted to sell the mirror...

I'm so glad I purchased it!

Want to see where I placed it...

cause you won't guess...

I realize this is the worst
most un-staged photo
in the world..

but

I propped the mirror behind the stove
and
I love it there.

I had a hard time taking this shot
because it was reflecting my messy counter,
dishes on the table AND I didn't want to be in the photo...

Trust me, it's so pretty there in person!!

Last, but not least....

This is a wonderful trophy that I purchased
It's my first three handled trophy!

Great inscription....

The detail of the daisies is amazing...

and it's large size says
"hey look at me"

It's marked
"Quadruple Plate Silver" on the bottom.

It found a place of honor
in the entry way on a stack of books...

next to my trophy collection
on the the other side of the white urn...

We had a great day in Santa Monica. The weather was overcast and wonderful for shopping. The show was smaller than I expected but perfect for Mr. AntiqueChase. I think we staying about 2 hours which is about his comfort level.  We took Pacific Coast Highway home and windy Topanga Canyon...then we stopped for lunch in the Valley for our favorite  L' Express salads... Perfect day :)
