Welcome Spring ~

So bright and sunny today in Southern California~

I have been moving things around and freshening the house up....

I found this old metal urn a few months ago... It was the end of the day at a flea market and the gentleman I bought it from was dumping his inventory before back surgery... I got a killer price...

I was lucky Mr. AntiqueChase was with me, because this urn weighs a TON and I could have never lifted it myself!

It was pretty rusty..
and while some people like a great patina...
this was just too rusty for me!

I debated about whether or not to paint it...

Usually, I try to live with an original finish
for at least week or two
before doing anything drastic,
like painting years worth of patina....

The urn just wasn't working in my house with all the rust! So, I decided to pull out the chalk paint. I love chalk paint because I don't need to use a primer, there is no smell, and I can paint quickly right on my kitchen island... shhh, don't tell the Mr.

On hand, I hand Annie Sloan French Linen and Old White...
(I would really like to find a use for French Linen but I just don't care for it).

I ended up painting the urn with old white..

It took 2 coats for complete coverage...

I tried to leave a bit of rust where I could...

Then, I waxed it up with clear wax...

I also added a tiny bit of dark wax ...
just for some dimension...

I filled the urn with dried hydrangeas... they were a gift from my mom. She has the BEST luck drying them!  When I try, they just wilt. Her tip is to cut the hydrangeas off the bush and remove all the green leaves. Place in a vase with a small amount of water and let the water evaporate... It works for her... It has NEVER worked for me...

She is VERY generous with her dried hydrangeas...

So much so,
that I also filled the top of my hutch in the family room!

I really would like to add a bit more blue to the room, but so far,
not many dried blue hydrangeas to choose from...

Hope your Spring is off to a wonderful start!
Thanks for stopping by!
