Vintage Inspiration - Wine Bottle Holder ~

I have always wanted a Vintage Wine Bottle Holder...
but the prices have always stopped me
dead. in. my. tracks...

Vintage or antique bottle holders can cost anywhere
from $200 to $600 dollars!!

So sad...
No way that's happening in my kitchen!

Until...

I was visiting LoLo at The Adventures of Stig and Lolo....
LoLo was kindly enabling alerting her readers
about a HUGE vintage inspired wine rack she found
 75% off...

At Wisteria of all places....

Oh yes!!!

The original price was $149
but with 75% off

only $37.25 !!!

I could finally own one!!
yippee!
Quick, where's my credit card??

Shipping this oversized item
was almost as much as the item itself
($30.00)
but still totally worth it!
(Sad to report that Wisteria has now raised their price to $89.40)

I knew this bottle rack was gonna be tall
however....
I totally underestimated just how massive it would be!

The 3 1/2 feet of it completely overpowered my kitchen...
even when it was on the floor...

Not only was it too tall,
but it was a bit too new looking for my taste...

There was no way, no how
I was going to return it !!

It was going to work...
somewhere at my house!!

In person, vintage bottle racks are usually more of a Zinc color...
a very muted grey
with a cool metal patina...

So, I drove really fast went to Home Depot
in search of a ZINC colored spray paint.

I figured I could spray the bottle rack,
and then distress it
(or maybe white wash it)

to get the vintage look I was after....

I didn't find a color called 'Zinc'
but I did find another fantastic color!!

(amazon link ^)

GALVANIZED!!

Warning:
this paint can be hard to find...
is always SOLD OUT
and is very addicting!!

I went to Home Depot two times
before they finally got it back in stock!

I sprayed one light coat...
and realized I didn't need to distress it at all
because it dried with a great distressed look all on it's own...

Can you see all the dark areas??

A beautiful patina right from the can!!
No distressing necessary!

Galvanized paint is my new best friend!!

But the bottle rack never made it back into my kitchen!!!

It's seriously
just
too
big!

However, I think I found a better use for it...

EXACTLY what I needed for my outdoor potting table!

It organizes my pots perfectly...
They are all on display and I can see exactly what I am looking for!
(did you notice the broken prong on the table? don't ask!!)

If I was to order again,
I probably would order Wisteria's smaller bottle rack...

At $69, this one's a bargain!

For an extra 10% off
try the coupon code
"Welcome" or "Hello"
at checkout...

(I have no idea if the coupon code still works
but it's worth a try!)

Thanks for stopping by!!

I hate when I order something and it just doesn't work out the way I wanted it, too. I love how you are using it for your pots. I will have to check out that paint if I can find it.

Hi Marcy, My husband bought me the smaller version of this for Christmas. I thought about exchanging it for the larger one but decided to keep it. Glad now I didn't return it. Yours looks great on your potting bench & thanks for the tip on the paint.

You constantly inspire me.... I have glass canisters too.... but took the clear scoops out and replaced them with big old silver spoon/ladles.... like you.

This is fantastic and I love that color you put on it! It does look huge- lol- but it is perfect for where you put it!! I have purchased things before and they have ended up being the wrong size, but sometimes, you just gotta make it work somewhere!! I usually find that I am so happy I ended up keeping it the end. Thanks for sharing at FNF! :)

I can see how that galvanized paint could be addictive - it's so cool that it creates a distressed look all by itself :-)

Great idea to re-purpose the wine rack as a holder for your planters :-)

Perfect solution. I've always thought they were cool too - the tiny ones on counters make great mug holders. Dropping by from Met Monday. When you have a few minutes, I'd love for you to come see my recovered chairs.

It looks great with your pots on. I wish we had more of a choice of spray paints over in the uk. There's so many ideas in my head but so little choice. Grrr..... I will have to make do with coveting yours!!!
