Flea Finds in the Kitchen ~

Last week, I found some vintage treasures at my favorite Flea Market. I love to play around with kitchen accessories and change them out. Here's what's new in my kitchen.....

(click on any picture to enlarge)

I had these old bread boards
but was looking for a way to display them.

I found this great vintage basket....

It fits perfectly next to my oven.

Love the texture of the wicker
  leather handles
and wooden feet...

The basket was a bit too deep for the bread boards.
My friend, Deborah, suggested
I stuff the bottom of the basket
with newspaper or towels...

Great idea, it worked perfectly!

Love the way this basket displays my collection.

When the kids run and dance in the kitchen
the boards won't fall over anymore!!

I also found this bench at the Flea Market.
I really liked how narrow it was.
I almost passed it by
the wood color was really strange...

(Of course, I forgot to get a "before" photo...)

The wood was kind of a cheap pine yellow color.
Don't get me wrong...

I love pine...
Just not the original color of this bench!

For $20 I bought the bench.
I figured there must be a way to fix it up...

My friend, Cheryl, suggested I try Briwax
in "Dark Brown"...

I rubbed on one coat and buffed it out...

The Briwax turned the yellow bench
into the PERFECT color for my kitchen!

Have you tried Briwax??
It's AMAZING!!

Another Scale!!

I now have three vintage scales in my kitchen.
This one actually serves a purpose as my new fruit bowl.
I have it on my center island to remind my family to eat some fruit!

This old biscuit tin is my new favorite kitchen find!

I love the color of the box....
sort of a gray-green...
and the bird on the front... love it!!

It adds a pop of color to this space
and functional storage too!

I bought another vintage crock.
This one set me back $5.00.

I had a much smaller one
which didn't hold all my favorite cooking utensils.
Love the generous size of this one!

Switched out my rose oil with a vintage cow oil painting...

I've had this painting for a while.

For a change,
I moved it into the kitchen
next to my silver.

Placed my vintage bakery box above my kitchen cabinet.

I was planning on using it in the kids playroom
but decided I liked it here....

I like the contrast of the wood
next to the old floral tole tray....

I hope you will consider following my blog!

Thanks for stopping by!

to let me know that the basket is a French artillery basket

The bread boards in that basket ~ just about the coolest thing I've seen lately!! I just love seeing your finds, and am very jealous that we don't have a great market here like that! We are going to be in LA (Manhattan Beach) in December, how far would it be for me to get there? And is it every weekend?!

You are one lucky shopper. Everything is fantastic but that basket is really cool. What was it originally used for? Never seen ANYTHING like that and it looks great in your kitchen... as do all of your other treasured finds.

What a great and unique basket. I wonder what it's original purpose was? You could store so many things in it, like cookie sheets and newspapers to be recycled, but I love your cutting boards in it.

Marcy, I am going to have to check the thesaurus to come up with some new adjectives to properly describe your awesome finds and the uses that you create for them! Stunning and Gorgeous just do not do it justice!! I absolutely ADORE that basket and it is the perfect compliment to those bread boards! Looks SO good! And I have been on the hunt for a cow painting myself, but the ones I have found are just out of sight expensive...so I hunt on!

It is all STUPENDOUS!!

I adore the cow oil painting. That is what I am on the hunt for along with tarnished silver trophies. I wish you would join my before and after party since you redid the bench. Would love to have ya!

That is one of the neatest baskets I've ever seen and your use of it is just fantastic! I absolutely LOVE the way you've displayed your boards there. Your whole kitchen is gorgeous. I love everything you've done...the cattle painting, the silver pieces on the tray and it looks like some ironstone transferware bowls on the stand by the basket of boards. I love how you've decorated.

Thank you for the remark on my turkey post.

Smiles,

Nancy
