Christmas Decor at the Thrift Store ~

I pulled off the freeway to make a quick stop at my favorite Thrift Store.  I was hoping to find a transferware platter, maybe a silver trophy.. or maybe even an old book. What I didn't expect to find was this amazing collection of Department 56...........

WAIT!!!!
I know exactly what you are telling yourself...

Isn't this the lady who declared 3 weeks ago
that she is not a seasonal decorator??

Yes, that would be me.

Well...

I lied!!!

Okay, I didn't really lie.

More like
Changed my mind!!!

At fourteen dollars a house,
how could I resist?

I bought {most} of the Christmas in the City collection
just waiting at the Thrift Store for a good home...

The proceeds from my sale went to charity!!

So...

I picked out a few houses...

And then,
picked out some more!

I even went back the next day {to get another piece}
and the rest was ALL GONE...

My set came with a package of snow...

I haven't spread that out yet,
I mean seriously....

It's only November!

And...
I'M NOT EVEN A SEASONAL DECORATOR!
{LOL}

Thanks for stopping by!

I have the snow village and love it. You can break it down in to little vignettes all over the house. I leave the lights on all night. If I get up in the middle of the night it is so cozy. You can put it out November 1st and take it down last. It just screams winter to me.

I definitely giggled as I read this. Isn't it fun to finds something so totally unexpected? I love it when that happens. Your snow village will be enjoyed by you and all who visit during the holidays. If you have young children in the family, imagine the magic that this will bring to their eyes. Great find!

That is so cute! They are simply irresistible kind of like a dollhouse. Oh go ahead and spread out the snow! I just picked up 3 dozen pine cones... in the freezing rain. LOL

I had a great aunt who had a full set plus ice skaters and all sorts of extras and I adored it as a kid. I could sit there for hours looking at it and playing with it (I was one of those rare kids who could play with breakables and never break anything).

A girl always has the right to change her mind! All it takes is finding something that excites you and you became a seasonal decorator. I know this from experience. I love your new collection of Dept 56. My DIL has quite a few pieces and they are always so pretty at Christmas. Enjoy!

Ah, the Christmas in the City is probably my favorite Dept 56 series, along with the two Little Town of Bethlehem sets, which I do own! I have pictured them on my Carola Nativity Gallery blog.

May I have your life!?!?! I love this & all from the thrift store. Man, I really plan on using the thrift store to my advantage when I "move out on my own" and am out of this college furnished, press board apartment I have :) :) :)

You can find so many GREAT things at the thrift store & you can pick things up one by one. I love it :)

Awesome find!!! I don't consider myself a seasonal decorator either, but would have snatched that up! Congrats!

What an unreal find! Love, love the "Hollydale" store building... and all of the cool little people. You are REALLY lucky to have found this!

Can't wait to see how you set it all up for the holidays... and I don't think November is too early. We don't have Thanksgiving at my house, we go to my in-laws. With everything that is going on this year I've decided to start decorating the weekend BEFORE Thanksgiving :)

Enjoy,
Chris

I saw some too the other day and thought "WHAT?!" I used to love collecting them. I passed them up this time.

What a find! I love my Christmas village and set it up the weekend after Thanksgiving. For a while I was collecting houses and buildings like a crazy person until I realized there simply was no place to go with all of them! I would have lost my mind in the thrift store if I came across all of those pieces!

An amazing find! I have a few pieces of Dept 56. Haven't had it out for Christmas in a couple of years. Perhaps this year.

There is a Dept 56 shop on historic Main St in Saint Charles Missouri. I always love going there. To see the villages set up in an antique house is fabulous.

Your post made me laugh. What a deal! Aren't you glad you picked up the things you did, especially if the rest was gone the next day. There are some really cute pieces there.

Oh my!! What a find. Don't worry about putting it out in November. I put mine up for Christmas and leave it until Spring when it starts looking a little ridiculous to have a village up complete with "snow".

Well surely you decorate for Christmas unless you don't believe. Great buys on that and can't wait to see it all fixed up with the snow.

I have the Dept. 56 Original Snow Village and won $3000 more from a raffle. My husband bought me a special storage cabinet just for it alone. This stuff is very expensive if you buy it new so when I say you got a bargain, you really got a bargain at $15 a piece!!!!!!! Have fun with it! ~Ames

This is so fun. We like to collect one house a year and so far, we have 9 of them! :)

You did get an amazing deal! I have quite a few of the Dickens Village but I didn't pay $ 14 for them! I should check out Goodwill before I buy another one. You will have fun with your new collection! Linda

As a Dept. 56 collector, you have got a major find here and to get sooo many pieces at once. How fun. I got rid of all of my boxes for my Christmas village because I decided it was not a collector's item, it was a Christmas display and that made it so easy to set up. Have so much fun with this! Great Table Top Tues.

Wow! That collection cost me a zillion dollars. You got quite a bargain. Can't wait to see what you'll do with all of them.
