As we turned the aisle, we literally stumbled upon two vintage deck chairs....
They looked interesting,
and we were really tired
so we asked the seller if we could take a seat...
We were both surprised how comfortable they were....
and sturdy....
ahhhh... relaxing!
We started to notice some of the details...
Brass fittings
Chunky old screws
and soft weathered wood...
By this time, I was wondering what the price was...
My friend and I had been ooohing....
and ahhing over these chairs
for at least 5 minutes
which is completely against Rule #1!!!
You've heard of Rule #1...
right???
NEVER let a seller know that you are emotionally invested in an item...
cause I can guarantee you the price will go UP!
As I was getting ready to ask the price
I noticed this...
and then THIS...
Oh my word....
They are antique chairs from a ship... 1st class no less!
Pretty soon it became clear...
if I didn't purchase these chairs
another couple was going too.
After a little negotiation,
we folded these babies up
and carried them out to the car.
Did I overpay... yes a little... it was my own fault,
I broke RULE #1...
But, I have two very unique chairs...
and every time I sit in them
I totally feel
1ST CLASS!!!
Thanks for stopping by!

Hi Marcy. These chairs are fabulous! Even more fabulous that they come from a ship...the stories they could tell!! Enjoy your new treasures:) Hope you have a lovely week ~ Tina
Great find. You seem to have a knack for being in the right place at the right time... or is it the right sale at the right price?
Hope you enjoy them for many summers to come.

Very cool! Even if you overpaid a little, that's a once-in-a-lifetime find... you would have regretted it forever if you hadn't snatched them up. Love them!
You find the coolest things. They are gorgeous.
Very nice... I'm on the lookout for some vintage sling deckchairs, but only ever see them in the UK... I'll keep on looking though. Oh, and I'm terrible with Rule#1... I wear my heart on my sleeve! Lx
Way to go! It's okay to break the #1 rule for something so fabulous with a great story. Really, how could you NOT get them! I love their color and their shape ~
Hope your long weekend was a good one!

I noticed several people have said the same thing....sometimes we run across something that really isn't paying too much, because it is something we will treasure and take care of so someone else has that opportunity in the future. There are a couple of pieces that I passed up many many years ago and still regret doing that. On another subject....with your skill at finding great pieces, I think you should do a guided tour of some of the great flea markets in your area. I know I'd sign up! :) Have a gareat week!
I wasn't trying to be Tony the Tiger with the "gareat"...just a typo. Do hope you have a great one though! Debra
Well, I knew from the first time I visited Antique Chase that you were First Class! What an amazing find. These are truly something unique. Being comfortable, well that's a bonus! ~ Sarah

My hubby is REALLY big on rule #1 ! But I think you did the right thing by buying those chairs. The fact that they were from an old cruise ship definitely would have sealed the deal for me. They're awesome!
I LOVE EM'
what a great outdoor space to relax in. and the perfect chairs to do it in!
Have you researched the history of the SS Amsterdam yet? There are pictures of the ship and a passenger list from 1899. What fun imagining the conversations that took place, the books that were read, and the letters that were written from those chairs.
great find! if chairs could talk?!
lots of love,
edie
I absolutely love your deck chairs...and the brass 1st class tags...need I say more.

Great find! My dad has one and they are comfortable!
Fantastic find! I'm jealous :)
Great find....I would have broken all the rules to get those chairs!
I have one of these deck chairs too. I can't help but wonder who may have sat in it and what the conversation would be. By the way it has the SS Amsterdam and first class only brass plates on it. I read somewhere that the ship was scraped in 1979 in San Francisco,Haven't used it yet but, couldn't pass it up.
Dear All
I also have one of these fantastic chairs , but .... i found mine in a second hand shop in western australia ! my wife and i feel the same as the other lucky owners . i wonder whos aristocratic rear has sat upon my chair sipping a gin and tonic and discussing just how good life is .
